What is the UKZN Physics Research Camp?
The UKZN Physics Research Camp is a joint venture between the UKZN physics department, the Friedrich Alexander University (FAU), in Erlangen Germany, and the Science and Technology Education Centre (STEC@UKZN).
If you have a child/ learner aged 15 and above who is interested in physics, you are welcome to encourage them to take part in the UKZN-PRC. The students do not need to have any previous knowledge. They can come with their own project idea, maybe and Eskom Expo idea or they can find ideas on websites (e.g. https://www.iypt.org/problems/).
The camp provides your child/ learner, with the means to realize their physical science project ideas. The learners come to the UKZN Westville campus for 4 days and work on projects of their own. They are supported by scientists and students from UKZN and from FAU, Germany.
How much does participation cost?
Participation in the UKZN-PRC is free of charge. The university covers all costs on site, like meals and the costs of experimental materials. As parents, you must organise the travel onto the Westville campus for the 4 days.
How can my child/ learner participate?
Your child/ learner must be at least 15 years old and must not yet have a school leaving certificate (matric). Registration for the research camps is announced on our website: UKZN PRC. You will find a post on how to register for the camp. Please fill out the online registration form there.
